Franklin Chen, M.D.
Hand Surgery, Sports Medicine, General Orthopaedic Surgery
After graduating magna cum laude from Brown University in Rhode Island, Dr. Chen earned his Medical Doctorate from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. He continued at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he completed his General Surgery internship followed by a four-year residency in Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Chen received his subspecialty training during his fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at the renowned Philadelphia Hand Center, Thomas Jefferson University. After completing ten years of vigorous training, Dr. Chen lived in Chicago as a practicing physician in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. He was a Clinical Instructor in Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern University and served as Team Physician for the Evanston High School football teams.
Dr. Chen joined in the Edison-Metuchen Orthopaedic Group in 1998. In 2000, he received an award for Distinction in the Medical Field from America’s Registry. Dr. Chen has a special interest in the treatment of hand disorders, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, as well as injuries to the shoulder and elbow. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is an active member of the New Jersey Orthopaedic Society, as well as the Chinese American Medical Society. He has published many peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in the field of orthopaedic surgery.
